Dakota Collegiate Institute is one of the most innovative, progressive, and inclusive secondary schools in Manitoba. With close to 100 elective courses and more than 60 extra-curricular groups and activities, virtually every student can find a fulfilling place in the Lancer community. Dakota students benefit from an experienced teaching and educational support staff, many with advanced degrees and who have been recognized for outstanding achievements in education. Dakota students are regularly recognized for outstanding academic, athletic, and extracurricular achievements. Of students pursuing an academic stream, 99% get accepted into a university program upon graduating. A variety of specialized programs that support the specific needs of students facing physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges mean that Dakota helps prepare every student for success.
Dakota Collegiate was the first high school in Manitoba to make digital technology integral to the learning process with its 21st Century Learning initiative. Going beyond putting computer laptops in the hands of every student, this initiative involves transforming the learning experience, making it more relevant to the digital world students inhabit.
Dakota graduates have found success in every sector of the community and economy. Lancers hold positions in political life, as professional athletes, journalists, business executives, educators, artists, and as tradespeople. Why Dakota Collegiate
- Student support services: Student Services teachers at Dakota Collegiate assist students with a wide variety of personal, educational, vocational, and career-related concerns. Some of the services provided by these teachers are academic assessment and programming support, personal counselling, educational and vocational counselling, career counselling and information, and information and referral service.
- Advanced Placement: Advanced Placement (AP) courses are designed for highly motivated students with an excellent work ethic. Students can benefit from taking AP courses by learning a subject in greater depth; developing skills that will be critically important to successful study in college and demonstrating to colleges and universities a student’s willingness to undertake a challenging course. AP courses offered at Dakota Collegiate include Biology. Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, English, History, and Art.
